| Some of the unique features of The Midsummer Night’s Dream Project include attention to the underlying factors that support healthy movement and a positive body image.
Students will learn body mapping and kinesthetic awareness techniques through exercises drawn from the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic learning. They will practice age appropriate classical ballet exercises that will develop strength, flexibility, agility and grace. Utilizing the material covered in ballet class, students will also participate in rehearsals where they will learn to transfer steps into choreography as they prepare to perform to excerpts from Mendelssohn’s gorgeous ballet score for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Finally, students will be challenged with home-based projects designed to spark creativity—such as designing their own costume. Respect for one’s self, others and the environment in which the creative process takes place will be strongly emphasized.
