The Midsummer Night's Dream Project
Dates: July 14 to August 20, 2009
Location: The Needham Presbyterian Church
Registration Deadline: June 30, 2009

The Midsummer Night’s Dream Project provides an opportunity for young performing artists to blossom. Taking place at the Presbyterian Church in Needham, MA, this non-denominational program will welcome students in two age groups: 6 to 8 and 9 to 11.

Designed for students who love to dance, hunger to learn and enjoy performing, classes will challenge students to think and feel more deeply about their own learning and creative processes. Parents are invited to attend an information session on Thursday, June 18, at 7:30 pm, or call 508-446-5538 for further information. Class size will be limited to fifteen students. Please enroll early!

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 30, 2009. See registration instructions below.
Some of the unique features of The Midsummer Night’s Dream Project include attention to the underlying factors that support healthy movement and a positive body image.

Students will learn body mapping and kinesthetic awareness techniques through exercises drawn from the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic learning. They will practice age appropriate classical ballet exercises that will develop strength, flexibility, agility and grace. Utilizing the material covered in ballet class, students will also participate in rehearsals where they will learn to transfer steps into choreography as they prepare to perform to excerpts from Mendelssohn’s gorgeous ballet score for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Finally, students will be challenged with home-based projects designed to spark creativity—such as designing their own costume. Respect for one’s self, others and the environment in which the creative process takes place will be strongly emphasized.
