Based in Walpole, Massachusetts, we offer dance and somatic education training programs and products for children and adults. Somatic education is a term that most people are not yet familiar with; it simply means that we connect the process of movement to the process of learning. Movement is the means, but it is in our ability to sense and perceive our body in motion that we discover the kind of self awareness that can lead to growth, healing, and the ability to actualize our intentions. At Kinesthetic Edge, we provide you with simple and effective learning strategies that you can implement in your life today. Learn to move better and you will feel better and live better!
NEW - Body Knowledge MP3s
We are now offering our best selling Feldenkrais lesson compilation, Body Knowledge, in MP3 format. The program includes three mat lessons and one seated lesson that will increase your awareness of your body in movement and, as a result, enable you to recognize movement habits that may be inhibiting your form or leading you down the path to pain and injury. The gentle movement sequences prepare bodies at all fitness levels to safely take on more strenuous exercise. Incorporating them into your training or pre-game routine will enhance your warm-up, deepen your mental focus, and give you that competitive edge all athletes crave. Download one lesson, or the entire album. (Approximate running time: 1 hr. 40 min.) Body Knowledge is also available on compact disc. Please visit our Store for details.
Children's Programs
Dance is one of the most natural and joyous forms of human expression. By combining somatic-based exercises with traditional dance training, we aim to provide all of our dance students with a learning experience that will lead to a positive self image and which encourages healthy, creative and intelligent self-expression. Jump for Joy is our pre-school dance program for ages 3 to 6. The Midsummer Night's Dream Project is a summer program for children with previous dance training that combines somatic and classical dance training with performance.
Adult Programs
Many adults experience the feeling of being disconnected from their body. This can take on many forms: feeling uncoordinated, being injury prone, living in a constant state of stress, or having a poor or inaccurate self image. Somatic training offers a way to gently reconnect and rediscover yourself. At Kinesthetic Edge you can choose from three popular somatic movement methods: the Feldenkrais Method®, the Alexander TechniqueTM, or Pilates. Each method is effective, but offers a slightly different approach. Please contact us to inquire about private lessons and to determine which method is the right starting point for you. Or, try out one of our lesson downloads. Each of the first three lessons in the Body Knowledge compilation (in our download box above) includes a free 8-minute preview. Kick off your shoes, click one of the tracks, and give Feldenkrais a try.
